How to join across databases without moving the data

Most teams start with one database and add more over time. Sales is in MySQL, accounting is in PostgreSQL, and operations keeps its own Excel files. Then someone needs a report that spans all of it, and the question is how to join it.

Common options

  • Export to CSV and combine in Excel: quick, but hard to repeat and stale at once
  • Build a central warehouse with ETL: works well, but takes time and people, and is overkill for a small team
  • Use a tool that joins across connections directly: a good fit for reporting and checking data

Which to choose

If you need current data for everyday work and the volume is modest, joining through one tool connected to every database is the most direct route. If you regularly analyse hundreds of millions of rows, a warehouse is still the cheaper answer.

With Join Canvas in Ruamhub

You drop tables from each connection onto the canvas, draw lines between columns, preview the result and save it as a pipeline to run again. Rows per query and runs per month depend on your workspace plan.
